Diplomatic Relations

Mongolia and South Korea established diplomatic relations on March 26, 1990. This cooperation began as both nations sought to expand their international partnerships following the end of the Cold War. Over the years, the relationship has grown significantly, marked by high-level visits and agreements in various sectors. Notable milestones include the state visit of Mongolian President Ochirbat Punsalmaa to South Korea in 1991, which was the first by a Mongolian head of state after democratization. The two countries have since developed strong ties in politics, economy, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, with a focus on strategic partnerships in areas such as climate action, cultural exchange, and urban development.
