Diplomatic Relations

Diplomatic relations between the United Arab Emirates and South Korea were formally established on June 18, 1980. The Republic of Korea opened its Embassy in Abu Dhabi on December 5, 1980, while the UAE opened its Embassy in Seoul on March 3, 1987. Over the years, the relationship has grown stronger, marked by high-level visits and increased economic and cultural exchanges. Notably, the Barakah nuclear power plant project, initiated in 2009, has been a significant milestone in their cooperation. The relationship was elevated to a "Special Strategic Partnership" in 2018, reflecting the deepening ties in various sectors.

List of Ambassadors

1. Abdul Karim Mohammed Al-Amri (1987–1994): Ambassador Al-Amri was the first UAE ambassador to South Korea, establishing the initial diplomatic framework.

2. Abdulaziz Nasser Al Owais (1995–1998): Ambassador Al Owais focused on strengthening bilateral relations and promoting economic cooperation.

3. Abdullah Muhammad Al-Shurafa (1998–2004): Ambassador Al-Shurafa played a key role in enhancing cultural exchanges and supporting the UAE community in South Korea.
